This year’s winner was the Sudanese singer Abaker Malek Athum. Abaker came to Australia about 8 years ago to escape the war in Sudan. He writes his own music and sang a song about his journey. He is extremely grateful to be here but did have a message for young people to avoid alcohol and drugs and to enjoy this wonderful country.
The young Irish Dancers also won Mulgoa Idol mugs to add to their collection of awards. Patrick, Libby and Kate Wakeling are very talented and it was a treat to watch the traditional dancing.
Dr Adrian Sheen has organised this event for 8 years and said “We raised over $7000 which was a great result for the chosen charity ‘Puffin Magic’ but it is only part of the event. Keeping music live and having a good night out is also important.”
Dr Sheen plays trombone in The Mulgoa Road Jazz band were great entertainment as well as the other Idol competitors.
