Several residents are concerned about this development. It is good to have more families moving into the area but an additional 140 homes puts extra stresses on the existing facilities and roads. The following information has been supplied by Joanne Down, Communications Unit Team Leader at Wollondilly Shire CouncilRezoning of land at 2044-2054 Silverdale Road, Silverdale from an RU2 Rural Landscape zone to R2 Low Density Residential zone. This is in keeping with the zoning immediately to the north of the site. •	The site is identified in the Structure Plan map for Silverdale & Warragamba in the Growth Management Strategy as a potential area for the growth of Silverdale. •	The draft proposal states that a potential lot yield of at least 140 lots could be achieved with a lot size of 970 square metres. •	There is some significant remnant Shale Sandstone Transition Forest on the site, which is an endangered ecological community and provides shelter for native wildlife, detailed studies will need to be made of the site to determine the biodiversity values of this area, this could impact on the number of lots achievable through any potential future subdivision. •	It is likely that a detailed traffic study will need to be undertaken regarding the local road network in Silverdale.	Joanne Down | Communications Unit Team Leader Wollondilly Shire Council

The mayors of Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly councils have joined forces in opposition to any proposal by the Federal Government for a second airport in the Macarthur region. “There is no room for compromise on the issue of a second airport in south west or western Sydney, and we will fight this issue wholeheartedly to the end,” the mayors said in a joint statement. “The Macarthur region of councils have consistently and vehemently opposed a second airport in our region on the basis of environmental considerations, noise pollution and the impact on new urban housing release areas, which are estimated to squeeze a city the size of Canberra in our backyard.“The residents of the Macarthur region must not be penalised in terms of their health and wellbeing, their lifestyle opportunities, their access to future housing, as well as employment and economic development opportunities, under any circumstance,” the mayors said.“We call on the Minister and the Federal Government to categorically rule out any consideration of a potential site for a second Sydney airport, to be located in western Sydney or in the Sydney basin. Clearly proven scientific constraints relating to poor air quality in south west Sydney and its attendant health risks, coupled with the implications of aircraft noise emissions, lead us to believe that our residents, existing and future, must not be disadvantaged in satisfying Sydney’s future airport requirements. “Our position is firm and final – no second Sydney airport for Macarthur. This is a view each of us feel strongly about, and we are united in opposing any government on plans to the contrary”. The south west Sydney sub-region has a current population of more than 450,000 people, which is planned by the NSW Government to grow to in excess of 875,000 by 2036.

Warragamba Dam gates opened at 7pm on Friday 2nd March to hundreds of spectators and media crews. This photo is from the Sydney Morning Herald website where you can watch a video of the event and listen to the noise of the water thundering into the pond at the bottom of the 100 metre drop. The pond acts as an energy dissipater, slowing the water before it flows down the Warragamba River to join the Hawkesbury-Nepean system.
The lookout at Eighteenth Street was packed with people although some of them complained about the view being obscured by trees. The main drum gate holding back Warragamba Dam was last opened in August 1998.

TaylahTsitsikronis from Silverdale has been in the news again with her award for her softball talent at the Awards Night held by the Western Sydney Academy of Sport at Castle Hill RSL on Saturday 26th November.

Taylah was presented with the 2011 Woolworths Limited Scholarship for a Female Athlete. She received $5,000 a cash grant to assist with sports participation and education costs.

The special guest was three time Olympian and Commonwealth Games medalist, Melinda Gainsford Taylor who offered words of wisdom and inspiration to the upcoming stars of the future at Awards night. The young athletes were captivated by the words of sporting legend Melinda, as she talked them through the good and bad experiences of her career, particularly at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games. She left them with the message “if you believe in yourself, anything is possible” and said how she was excited to be sitting amongst the sporting stars of the future.

Taylah is now in South Africa with the under 19 Australian softball team contesting the International Softball Junior Championships.

Mulgoa Valley Football Club has had an outstanding season of soccer, on, and off the field in 2011. Established in 1986 with three junior teams, the Club has grown to eleven sides ranging from Under 5’s to All Age Men’s and Women’s.
Three sides from our Club were Premiers in 2011. Our Under 7’s were undefeated for the second year running. The Under 11’s Division 4 side finished 4th in the competition and went on an amazing run and won the grand final 1-0. Our Under 11’s Division 3 side were Minor Premiers and Premiers. This team only dropped one game all
season winning the grand final 1-0.
The Club’s focus is on supporting the families and kids of Mulgoa. We have six committee members who are the backbone of the Football Club. Ninety percent of canteen proceeds go back to the players on Presentation Day. The generosity of this small club is overwhelming. Last year all players received a beautiful trophy and a 25 Year
Anniversary Track. . This year all players, along with their trophy received a MVFC Sports Bag and the juniors a MVFC Backpack. Coaches, managers and parent helpers were given club shirts, umbrellas and scarves.

Our playing numbers have increased each year and the Club would like to continue that growth in the future. So if you would like to see your children, boys & girls, keep fit and active, learn football in a fun and caring environment, then bring them down in 2012 and sign up with a great little Club.

Our registration dates for season 2012 will be held at Mulgoa Valley Football Clubhouse at Littlefields Rd. Gow Park on Saturday 11th and 18th February 10am – 1pm and Wednesday 15th February 6pm – 9pm.
All players registering on these dates receive a MVFC beanie.

Please Contact Mark Goodwin, the Club President on 0412 966 681 with any enquiries.
