Girl Guides is a great organisation for girls who love making friends, having fun and developing new skills.
The Warragamba Girl Guides have vacancies for girls aged 7 to 15. They meet in the Guide hall on Monday or Wednesday evenings and enjoy activities and games which are fun but also teach leadership, teamwork, decision making, a respect for the environment, communication skills and a sense of community. Outdoor activities are an important part of the Australian Guide programme and the girls have had the opportunity to go camping, sailing, horse riding, rock climbing, flying, swimming, surfing, ice skating as well as campfire cooking and gadget making. The new Southern Cross Ranger unit for girls aged 15 – 18 years old has 4 girls working on their Queen’s Guide award and meets fortnightly.
The Guide hall has been renovated with an internal bathroom, new kitchen and storage areas. Many thanks to the parents who have helped but especially Steve Bloem who has been a wonderful help with the building works and Terry Fraser who has spent many hours painting the hall.
2010 is the ‘Year of The Guide’ celebrating 100 years of Guiding with some great events planned so this is a great time to get involved and help local girls grow into responsible young women.
We need a new female, over 18, leader for the girls. No experience is necessary as free training is provided. Please phone Margaret for further details: 4773 8974.
